Andre Sornay cabinet in beech and beige panels 1960
This sideboard was designed by André Sornay, the visionary cabinetmaker from Lyon whose creations left a lasting mark on French design in the 1950s and 1960s. Entirely original, it perfectly illustrates his rigorous craftsmanship combined with a spirit of innovation.
The piece features a solid beech frame paired with beige laminated panels from the period, creating a subtle and refined contrast. The front is fitted with two sliding doors that open onto a central shelf, making it both practical and elegant for storage.
As with many of Sornay’s creations, the structure is assembled using his patented "tigette" rod system, renowned for its strength and modernity. The visible nuts on this piece indicate that it was likely a custom-made commission, adding to its rarity and uniqueness.
Discreet yet functional, this sideboard can easily find its place in various settings: as a console in an entrance hall, or a storage unit in a living room.
A fine example of André Sornay’s timeless modernity and craftsmanship.
